There are many debate topics that come up during the holiday season for football fans. People argue about whether credit or blame should go to the quarterback or the offensive line. The head coach or the coordinator. Need to run it more, need to throw it more. Is the water falling from the sky wet?

Some of the strongest emotional reactions appear, though, with two simple words around certain Seahawks fans:

Action. Green.

It’s only fair to warn an unsuspecting person before they flip on the TV Sunday night to watch the 8-5 Seahawks host the 9-4 Packers (5:20 p.m., NBC TV, KIRO Radio). Some need a moment to adjust. Others never will. Yet another group owns multiple “action green” items and wears them freely in public, unconcerned or oblivious to the public scorn that might come along with it. Some will point to a strong 5-2 record when the uniforms are worn.

Many, including Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, believe it’s the best Seahawks color.

“I would say this about the action green, I love them personally in my opinion, but the big guys hate them,” Metcalf said with a chuckle. “I don’t know why, don’t ask me. But no, I think our opponents really admire the action green jerseys. Hopefully, the Packers wear all white, so it’ll be a fun-looking game.”

Metcalf declined to comment when asked if it’s because they’re not the most slimming choice for big fellas.

So what is the best Seahawks jersey? There will never be a consensus. It’s quite common to hear national reporters and TV personalities wonder why the “throwbacks” aren’t simply brought back — forever.

Some love the “wolf grey” combo. Others prefer what will forever be known as the “LOB era” uniforms that the team began wearing in 2012 and still use for most games this season.

There are even a few who still love the uniforms most closely associated with, Hall of Fame offensive lineman Walter Jones, the Mike Holmgren era and Marshawn Lynch’s “beast quake” run early in Pete Carroll’s term.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, who typically blends in whether it’s throwback week or themed games like Salute to Service, admitted on Wednesday that his closet was not overflowing with “action green” items.

“Not much,” Macdonald said, laughing. “It’s a good color though. It’s a great color. I’m kind of cubic, so it’s not very flattering on me.”

He’ll likely find something green for Sunday night, as will many of the fans in the Lumen Field stands. The preponderance of action green could wash out some of the gear worn by Green Bay fans who are often well-represented at away games.

For those watching on TV, give it a moment. Let your eyes adjust as they do when you flip the light on in the morning. It’ll be OK.
