RENTON — The beleaguered Seahawks offensive line may be getting some big help for Sunday’s game against the 49ers.
Abraham Lucas, a 6-foot-6, 322-pound offensive lineman out of Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett, is nearing a return to the starting lineup at right tackle. It would be a major boost for Seattle, which has used three different players at the position this season, including sixth-round rookie draft pick Michael Jerrell.
“San Francisco is a realistic expectation at this point,” said first-year head coach Mike McDonald of Sunday’s game against the 49ers. “The best version of Abe is going to be the best version of our offensive line. We’ve got to make sure he’s ready to go, but from what I saw (Monday), he looked really good. He looked good last week.”
Lucas started all 16 games during his rookie season in 2022 after being selected in the third round of the NFL draft after his college career at Washington State. He started six games in 2023, with a problematic knee keeping him out of the other 10. The Seahawks confirmed that Lucas underwent knee surgery in January, but have not specified the exact injury or surgical procedure.
Macdonald indicated recently that the recovery took longer than expected, and they are being careful with their right tackle.
“There’s a timeline here that we’re kind of abiding by,” Macdonald said. “There’s certain milestones and hurdles that need to be crossed in order for him to play his best ball, so hopefully that’s this week.”
DK Metcalf likely to practice Wednesday
Star receiver DK Metcalf, who missed the past two games with a medial collateral ligament strain, is expected to practice this week, Macdonald said.
“(He is) doing well,” Macdonald said. “We should see him on Wednesday out there.”
Secondary moves
Safety K’Von Wallace was placed on the injured reserve list on Monday, meaning he must miss at least four games. Cornerback Josh Jobe was added to the roster from the practice squad. Jobe had played well when elevated from the practice squad, but the team could not elevate him again without adding him to the 53-man roster.
