DETROIT — For Detroit Lions, there was nothing wrong with perfection on Monday Night Football.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed 18 of 18 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-29 victory over the Seahawks at Ford Field.
“When the ball doesn’t hit the ground, that’s a good day,” said Goff, who also caught a TD pass from receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Oddly, Goff will not go into the record book for a perfect game, as that requires 20 or more completions.
His counterpart, Seattle quarterback Geno Smith wasn’t too shabby either. He finished the game with career highs in completions, attempts and yards, going 38 of 56 for 395 yards and a TD, but the Seahawks fell to 3-1 with their first loss in the Mike Macdonald era. Smith threw a pick on a desperation heave on Seattle’s last drive.
Macdonald, known as a defensive master, played without many of his chess pieces on Monday. Arguably his best four pass rushers — Uchenna Nwosu, Byron Murphy II, Boye Mafe and Leonard Williams — missed the game with injuries and left Macdonald with few answers to Goff and his running game. Detroit improved to 3-1.
Seattle outgained Detroit 383 yards to 273, but two turnovers proved to be the difference. The Seahawks hope to get a few players well in time to host the Giants on Sunday at Lumen Field.
