Time will tell if the Seahawks offense will look better in 2025.

We can be certain, though, that it will have new coaches in key spots. New Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is bringing in faces familiar to him to help the offense get moving next season.

In
John Benton, offensive line coach: The 61-year-old Benton has 33 years worth of coaching on his resume, including 19 in the NFL. Prior to coaching Kubiak’s offensive line in New Orleans last season, Benton served as the New York Jets’ running game coordinator in 2021 and 2022. He coached a strong San Francisco 49ers’ offensive line from 2017-20. He’s known for getting the running game going. In the past 20 seasons, seven of his lines finished in the top 10 in rushing yards.

Andrew Janocko, quarterbacks coach: Another New Orleans transplant, Janocko helped Derek Carr regain some of his early Raiders form, though backups Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener looked pretty awful last season. Janocko, 36, did some good things with Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins in 2021, his first season as a quarterback coach after joining the Vikings in 2015. Janocko will presumably work with Geno Smith.

Out
Scott Huff, o-line:
The veteran college offensive line coach came over from the University of Washington with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who has reunited with former UW coach Kalen DeBoer at Alabama since being fired by the Seahawks. Huff has succeeded with multiple head coaches during his career, and would seemingly be a top o-line coaching candidate for a college team if the NFL doesn’t come calling.

Charles London, quarterbacks: London left to the the quarterbacks coach of the New York Jets just prior to the hiring of Janocko. It is not known how much interest Kubiak had in retaining his services, though it’s plausible that he was encouraged to seek other employment.

The Seahawks are reportedly hanging on to receivers coach Frisman Jackson from last year’s team.

The new offensive coaching staff seems poised to get the ground game going more consistently in 2025, which is what head coach Mike Macdonald expects. The question is, are the offensive line pieces good enough to to complete a strong puzzle for Kubiak’s outside zone running attack? Tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas have proven to be solid players. The center and both guard positions, however, appeared to need significant upgrades or improvement for this staff to move the ball more consistently than Grubb’s offense was able to last season.
